A request for a “car organizer” can mean a molded console tray, a seat-back item or a portable trunk box. Start by naming the construction and intended use. The car organizers procurement page separates these requirements from the existing Tesla console tray range.
This checklist is for preparing and reviewing a purchasing brief. It does not establish that a new portable design has passed testing or is in stock.
Define the product and set
| Requirement | What to record |
|---|---|
| Product form | Molded tray, foldable trunk box, hanging item or another defined construction |
| Dimensions | Open and folded dimensions, compartment sizes and tolerances |
| Set contents | Base board, dividers, straps, hooks, lids or removable pieces |
| Material | Actual plastic/silicone grade or fabric, lining, board and surface requirements |
| Fixing | Attachment points, anti-slip base, strap routing and use limitations |
| Intended load | What the buyer expects to carry; testing and acceptance criteria to agree |
| Branding | Buyer-owned logo, location, artwork, label and instruction requirements |
| Order | Quantities by variant, destination and individual or bulk packing |
Review construction on the sample
Check the base, dividers, handles and seams against the approved drawing or reference. For a foldable box, inspect whether the panels stay in place, whether closures align and how the item recovers after folded packing. For a molded tray, check the exact console revision, lid movement, charging area and ports.
Avoid turning a material label into a performance claim. “Heavy duty,” “waterproof” and a load figure need a defined test scope and results for the actual construction. Specify the intended use, agree an appropriate test and record what has or has not been verified.
Agree fixing and use instructions
Review the actual attachment method and its compatibility with the intended vehicle or cargo area. State which parts the buyer must provide and whether anchors are included. A storage organizer is not automatically a cargo-restraint device; do not describe it as providing crash restraint without relevant evidence.
Keep the agreed use limitations and instructions with the sample record so that the retail packaging does not promise more than the reviewed product supports.
Measure packaging
Record open and folded sizes, individual package dimensions, carton count and weights. Include every divider, strap and board in the set list. Test whether compression damages the panels, seams, handles or surface finish. If combined with mats or cargo liners, request a packed sample of that actual mix.
For a private-label order, approve the logo application, barcode, retail carton and instructions on the selected construction. Artwork approval and product approval are separate decisions.
Keep a usable approval record
Retain the product reference, sample revision, drawings, photographs, agreed checks, exceptions and approval date. The order should also state quantity, packing, delivery and how differences from the approved specification will be reviewed.
You can use the blank pre-shipment checklist to organize checks. It is a template rather than a completed inspection record.
